Finally after filling out online forms 4 weeks ago to Carphone Warehouse, Three and O2 to enquire about the cost of having mobile broadband using my mobile phone, as in surf the web on my mobile phone and to which no one replied, I accidentally discovered that O2 now offer a data plan for 1 GB for €15 or 10GB for €30.
There appears to be no announcement of this new deal. It can be found here
It was very hard to find and even the customer support person had to find a paper memo about it, as she could not find it on her intranet.
Anyway, so far it works with my HTC S730 mobile phone, which I bought from www.expansys.ie as no carrier sells them in Ireland. So I paid full price but I can now finally surf the internet.
The HTC S730 mobile phone uses mobile windows V6.0. It is not the same as windows on the desktop. Web sites will not always appear properly, just don't expect full windows desktop experience on a windows mobile phone.
